Sesame-Crusted Tuna Tataki Salad

Tuna Tataki Salad

For a more colorful look, use a combination of black and white sesame seeds.

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups spring mix
  • 1/2 bell pepper, sliced
  • cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp roasted sesame seeds
  • 1 lb sushi-grade tuna
  • 1 medium avocado, sliced
  • cooking oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • dressing option: ponzu

Directions:

1. Pat down tuna fillet with paper towel. Allow some moisture to stay to adhere to sesame seeds.

2. In a shallow bowl, add sesame seeds enough to cover the bottom of the bowl and salt and pepper to taste. Dip tuna fillet into sesame mixture until it is fully covered in sesame seeds.

3. In a pan, heat cooking over high heat. Add crusted tuna fillet and cook for about 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on the thickness of the fillet. Once cooked on all sides, take off heat. Let cool while assembling salad.

4. In a bowl, toss together vegetables. Once tuna is cooled, slice tuna to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick pieces.

5. Serve with a drizzle on ponzu.
