Chicken and Broccoli (Takeout Copycat)

This is a copycat recipe that is pretty close to the ones we eat from Chinese Takeouts. It's definitely best to eat it the same day, leaving it in the fridge changes the texture of the sauce.

Makes 3 Servings

Ingredients:

For Chicken:

  • 8 oz boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil

For Sauce:

  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 ½ tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ¼ tsp ground white pepper

For rest of dish:

  • 3 cups broccoli florets; chopped and blanched
  • About 2 tbsp vegetable oil; divided
  • 3 cloves garlic; minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger; minced (or 1/2 tsp ground ginger)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Directions:

1. Thinly slice chicken and mix with all chicken marinade ingredients. Marinate for 20-30 mins

2. Mix all sauce ingredients in a separate bowl, set aside.

3. In large pan, heat up ~ 1tbsp vegetable oil over medium-high heat, cook chicken until done. Remove and set aside

4. In a clean pan, add in remaining vegetable oil, cook garlic and ginger until garlic is slightly browned

5. Add in sauce ingredients. While eating up sauce ingredients over medium heat, mix cornstarch with 2 tbsp water, stir well and pour into sauce. Stir constantly until thickened

6. Add in chicken and broccoli, cook and stir until well mixed.

7. Serve with rice

8. Best eaten on the same day
